Wakensys Limited to Release Several Software Products at INFOTEL 2008

SL exporters shine at GITEX TECHno WEEK in UAE

The Export Development Board (EDB) announced yesterday that US$ one million worth of export contracts were created as a result of Sri Lanka’s participation at GITEX Technology Week 2008 that was held in the UAE recently.

The EDB stated that the participants of the Sri Lanka pavilion managed to obtain first hand experience in the Middle Eastern ICT market. Sri Lankan participants also could benchmark their products and services in relation to international competition prevalent in the Middle Eastern market.

According to the EDB eight, Sri Lankan ICT companies representing various ICT niches exhibited at the Sri Lanka pavilion in the Business Solutions Sector at GITEX 2008.

In addition to generating export contracts, participants of the Sri Lanka pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2008, also got the opportunity to meet the Dubai Export Development Corporation and also to participate in forums such as ‘ICT Opportunities in South Asia’ organised by the Dubai Export Development Corporation and business meetings with Australian participants at the GITEX Technology Week 2008. Several business meetings with the participants of the country pavilions such as USA, France, Egypt, Pakistan and Russia were also organised during the GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2008.

Sri Lankan companies stand out because of their willingness to apply creativity. They offered fast response times, cost-competitive contracts, and to operate in an excellent business environment. With the emergence of the global economic slump, the EDB has identified the importance of market diversification from the traditional American market towards the vibrant ICT market of Middle – East.

This was the first occasion that Sri Lanka Export Development Board managed to organise a Sri Lankan pavilion in the GITEX Technology Week 2008 which is an annual exhibition taking place in Dubai, UAE for more than 25 years. The Software Exporters Association, with the assistance of ICT Agency of Sri Lanka pooled the resources to re-double the efforts of the EDB.

During 2008, purchases of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) products and services within Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) will overtake the US, according to the report by Global Insight.

Businesses in the Middle East are experiencing 5% growth, compared to 4% in the USA, with the Middle East and Asia-Pacific becoming the two fastest growing regions in the world, it further commented.

The EDB trust that Sri Lankan ICT companies which participated in the GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK are positioned to draw the maximum benefit out of this market diversification.

Sri Lankans participating companies in the GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2008, AKLO Information Technologies, Aranxa Software, Eureka Technology Partners HTN Information Systems, OpenArc Systems, Ridgecrest Asia, TAlliance and WAKENSYS represented various niches of ICT. These niches include university management, healthcare, remote infrastructure management, information security, ERP solutions in construction, capital market, banking and finance securities and share market, resourcing and testing, biometrics, web 2.0, HR, mobile software technology and content management.
